Art News
Thank you for visiting my web page. It's so nice to have visitors. In the Art Room this year we will be learning about many artists. On the back of your child's art work you will find notes on the artist. The older students take notes on line paper and the younger students will simply write the name of the artist on the back of their project. Listed below are the artists each grade will be learning this year.
- First Grade Vincent Vangogh and Henri Matisse
- Second Grade Henri Matisse (alot of techniques taught)
- Third Grade Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol and Vincent Van gogh, and Faith Ringgold
- Fourth Grade Pablo Picasso, Grant Wood, Roy Lichtenstein , Egyptian art
- Fifth Grade Gustav Klimt, M.C. Escher, Southwest Native American art.
The students know that not only do I introduce famous artists and their style, I also introduce to them the "Elements Of Art". These elements help us to create beautiful pieces of art work at home, in the classroom and in the art room. The students know these by heart:
- line
- shape
- color
- texture
- space
- value
The Elements help with each and every project from drawing to collaging. However, many projects are an exploration of a technique that has been around for a long time:for example, using water color paints, wet on wet, ( wet paint on wet paper)or wet on dry (wet paint on dry paper). Wax resist is another fun technique using crayons which create the wax barrier and watercolor or tempra paint to paint over the wax.

The butterflies are an excellent example of a wax resist. The bugs on the grass are an excellent example of wet on dry technique using watercolor paints.
This is my sixteenth year in L'anse Creuse and my ninth year teaching art. Before entering the art room I was a classroom teacher in L'Anse Creuse. I have an elementary teaching degree along with an art degree. I love being completely immersed in one subject-my favorite subject-art!
My goal is to instill a love of art in all children. I hope to bring out their artistic talents by exploring all types of art medium.
Artfully Yours,
Jeanine Krapfl
