Spanish Teacher Receives Grant for Traveling Diego Rivera Mural
Elementary Spanish teacher Susan Formento, who teaches at Chesterfield and Higgins elementary schools, received a L’Anse Creuse Foundation grant, along with art teacher Jeanine Krapfl, for a traveling Diego Rivera mural to be on display in the two schools. The murals are at Chesterfield Elementary School through April 18 and will be on display at Higgins for two weeks beginning April 21. We are working on a cross-curricular unit with the art teacher, said Formento. Students in fourth-grade will make murals in art class and learn about Diego Rivera and write about the murals in Spanish class. Chesterfield Elementary School is located at 25925 23 Mile Road in Chesterfield. For more information, contact Formento at formesu@lc-ps.org. Formento’s second-graders at Higgins Elementary School will read aloud in Spanish minibooks they made based on Eric Carle’s Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? book to kindergarteners April 21 throughout the afternoon. Higgins Elementary School is located at 29901 24 Mile Road in Chesterfield. For more information, contact Formento at formesu@lc-ps.org.
