Welcome to our first and second grade classroom! My name is Valerie Hurford (formerly Vietto) and I am excited to be your child's teacher! The 2011-2012 school year is my fifth year at Carkenord. I have taught both kindergarten and first grade. I am a graduate of Oakland University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and have a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education also from Oakland University.
My goal is to provide a positive learning environment that meets the diverse learning needs of all children. In our classroom community, students will work collaboratively through hands-on learning experiences. On a personal note, my husband Elliott and I were married in July 2008 and live in Macomb Township with our puppy Lucia.
