Carkenord's Family Council

The Carkenord Family Council varies slightly from the typical school “PTC” – it is divided into several different councils dedicated to different issues that are important to the school as a whole. The Family Council consists of the following sub-councils:

  • Beautification
  • Fine Arts and Diversity
  • Fundraising
  •  Public Relations
  • School Improvement
  • Special Events

These councils have all been working on various projects, events, etc. to make everyone’s experience with Carkenord the best that it can be. Anyone interested in joining one of these councils is always welcome to do so and suggestions and comments are also welcome anytime. If you are interested in joining one of the councils, please contact Carkenord Elementary at 493-5230.

Family Council meets once a month on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend the Family Council meetings and babysitting is provided.

Carkenord’s Fundraising Council runs Market Day once a month with pick-up held on Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Purchasing products from Market Day not only makes preparing meals at home easier, but it also raises money for the kids at Carkenord. You may either order through the school flyer sent home once a month or through their website at http://www.marketday.com/. The Fundraising Council can always use volunteers to help them unpack their monthly shipments. (Market Day helpers are entitled to free $$ off coupons when they help!!). If you are interested in helping them out, please contact Carkenord Elementary.

Family Council Activities

  • Applebee's Income:  Eat out - don't cook this night!  Eat at Applebee's and a portion of proceeds will go to the Carkenord Family Council.
  • Basket Raffle:  During conferences, parents donate items per classroom according to the type of basket the classroom selects.  Family Council members construct baskets (1 per classroom) and sell tickets during conferences.  Basket themes may include:  A Night at the Movies, Gardening, Pistons, Red Wings, Family Game Night, A Day at the Beach, and much more!  The day after conferences, winners are chosen for each basket.  The lucky winners are announced over the P.A.!
  • Cookie Dough:  Order forms go home for this fundraiser sale of pre-made tubs of cookie dough.  There are numerous selections of different types of dough to choose from.  Cookie dough makes a great holiday gift!
  • Coyote Day:  At the end of each school year, Family Council sponsor a school-wide Coyote Day.  Highlights of Coyote Day include inflatable obstacle courses, indoor games, karaoke, snacks and much more!
  • Gordon Food Services Fun Funds:  Parents can sign up at GFS for the Fun Funds Program.  Each time they make a purchase at Gordon Foods, proceeds of the purchase goes to Carkenord Family Council.
  • Harvest Fest:  Each fall, Family Council sponsors Harvest Fest.  Families can purchase tickets at the door for this great event!  Activities include the ever popular pumpkin decorating contest, 50/50 raffles, spooky stories, games, and much more!
  • Ice Cream Social:  Each year, Family Council provides students with a lunch-time ice cream social complete with ice cream and delicious toppings!
  • Meijer Stores:  Parents can sign-up for the Meijer School Fundraising Program.  After sign-up, parents receive a participation card. (This is not a credit card.) The card is presented when paying for any purchase at any Meijer Store.  A portion of each purchase will benefit the Carkenord Family Council.
