About Me!

My family is extremely active with the M.S. Society. This is a picture of my family  after we walkied in this year's MS Walkathlon in Troy for my Mother-in-law.

Welcome! This page is provided to give you some additional background information about me. Again if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Background Information:

This is my sixth year of formal teaching, seventh year including my year-long teaching internship.  I recently transferred into L'Anse Creuse schools in 2005.  For my first two years of teaching, I was employed with West Bloomfield Schools, where I taught full-day Kindergarten and fourth grade.

I graduated from Michigan State University in May 2002 with a degree in Child Development and Language Arts education.  In the spring of 2003, I completed my year teaching internship at Mt. Clemens Public School.  While at Mt. Clemens, I taught both full-day and Am/Kindergarten.

While interning, I worked on obtaining my Master's Degree from Michigan State University.  I recently completed my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Teaching in the summer of 2006 with my husband.  I love going to school and plan to continue my career in education for many years to come!

Family Information:

I come from a long line of teachers and have several family  members who are also teachers! My mother, my grandmother, my four cousins, three aunts, two sister-in-laws, and my husband are all teachers! Having this many teachers in the family definitely makes for interesting dinner conversations (and surprisingly, we all seem to have an opinion about education)!

My husband is also a Michigan State University graduate. He is a middle school teacher in Utica Community Schools. My husband is also my high school sweetheart! Teaching is very important to both of us.  We absolutely love to visit each other's classroom and to be involved with each other's classrooms as much as possible.

Another important family member that my students will get to know this year, is our dog, Otis.  Otis will provide your child with numerous quirky and interesting stories through the course of this year (he will even attend our Pizza Hut nights). Just in case you may hear a story or two about Otis, now you will know who your child is referring too!

Our newest family member is our one-year-old son, Andrew.  He truly is our pride and joy and I look forward to your children getting know my child as well!

Teaching Philosophy

I truly believe that every child can and will succeed in my classroom.  With my child development background, I believe it is my job as a teacher to assess your child's learning regularly, develop lessons/activities that are developmentally appropriate, and organize units that integrate the curriculum to suit every child's needs.

My instruction for the students is one that teaches through a variety of methods: hands-on, investigative, cooperative, learning stations, partner, shared, modeled lessons, and much more.

In my classroom, students will learn through various hands-on methods.  I also teach to various multiple intelligences in my classroom and try to teach in methods that are optimal for every child in my classroom.

                   Meet my son...Andrew!

Otie visited our classroom on Thursday, November 20th! The students did a wonderful job and were so gentle with Otie. Pictured here, our first graders are working on their math as Otie supervises!!!
