GREAT STUFF

Listed below are additional activities that are just for fun and are not required.  As the weather is changing and Fall is here, take a moment to try some of these activities! These are meant to be quick activities to help your child grow and develop through a variety of learning methods at home in addition to the school activities. I hope you will have the opportunity to enjoy some of these activities. If you have a suggested activity that you and your child enjoy doing together, please share with me, I would love to hear about it! These will be updated frequently.

 1. Library Visit: Take your child to visit the library this week. Let them fill out the application to receive their new library check-out card.

  2. Read Outside:

Take a blanket and a favorite book to read outside under a tree, in the park, or in their playhouse! As the leaves begin to change, have them bring a notebook to write down some observations they make!

 3. Write a letter:

What a great way to practice their writing. Have them write a letter to someone they know (Grandma, Uncle, Mom,) and help them to mail the letter.

 4. Pizza-Hut Night:

We will begin our Book-It program in class in October. In order for your child to participate in the event, they must complete their reading log sheet. When the month is finished, they can turn these in to receive a free pizza coupon.  We will be having our first Pizza-Hut night for those students who earned a pizza certificate in Novemeber. Happy Reading!

 6. Read to/with Someone

A great way to mix up the reading fun is to have your child read to someone else or with someone besides you. For example, have them read their book to something else such as their dog, cat, hamster, favorite toy or stuffed animal, etc.  This a great change of pace that they are sure to laught at and enjoy!

7. Sight Word Practice: Have your child cut out letters in a magazine and glue these letters onto a piece of paper.  Have them glue these letters on to form their sight words!

Thank you families!!!

Our Weather: Check out the what the weather will be like at our school for today! For fun, your child can keep a daily weather tally chart of how many sunny, snowy, windy, and rainy days we had in a week!

Bullying:  Higgins students are learning about bullying this year. If you would like some more information and some interactive fun/stories to do with your child click on the link above.
