Seventh-Graders Test Anti-Mocrobial
Seventh-grade science students at L’Anse Creuse Middle School East will participate in a real-life experiment testing an anti-microbial solution on their desk tops for the next seven weeks. The solution will stop any microbes from growing on a surface for 90 days. Dr. Dwayne Baxa from Henry Ford Infectious Disease Research and Bob Gillow from The Goldshield Group will oversee the process. Students will swab the tables each Tuesday, inoculate Petri dishes, incubate the dishes for 24 hours and see if there are any microbes. If there are, students will identify them, stain them and record their finds. This is a great opportunity to see science in the real world! said Dr. Heidi Reed, science teacher. Our study will also be documented in a medical journal. L’Anse Creuse Middle School East is located at 30300 Hickey Road. For more information, contact Dr. Reed at 586-493-5200 or at vonoehe@lc-ps.org.
