Integrating Technology with Security
Two years ago L’Anse Creuse Public Schools adopted the security identification program that is now in place for all L’Anse Creuse staff members. The technology department purchased software and an ID card printer. The software company provided training to the technology department. A design was created by the technology for L’Anse Creuse and presented to the Board of Education for approval. A portable backdrop and digital camera were then purchased.
The help desk then set out to take a digital photo of each staff member. These pictures were stored on floppy disks and then downloaded onto a computer. Next, each staff member’s information was entered. The picture was then inserted from the floppy disk and the ID badge was printed out for each staff member. This database of information has now grown to over four- thousand entries. The database is on the district’s network and backed up each night.
L’Anse Creuse School district is very pleased with the purchase of this equipment. As each new staff member, visiting teacher, vendor, student teacher comes into the district, they are photographed and given an ID badge. If a staff member leaves the district for any reason or an outside company completes a job, the ID badge is then returned to the help desk and destroyed.
Yacks Elementary school even had a picture of their crossing guard dog taken so he too would have the proper identification.

The Pankow Vocational & Technical Center used this technology for their health class students. The students were involved in a job shadowing with St. John’s North Shore Hospital and were asked to have a photo ID.
With the safety of our students and staff in mind and the use of technology, L’Anse Creuse proves to be a very “high tech” district.
