Effective July 1, 2011, section 205 of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Act of 2010 requires school food authorities (SFAs) participating in the National School Lunch Program to provide the same level of support for lunches served to students who are not eligible for free or reduced price lunches (paid lunches) as they are for lunches served to students eligible for free lunches. Based on this new requirement, the L’Anse Creuse Public Schools Board of Education approved a slight increase in breakfast and lunch pricing.
"L’Anse Creuse has not increased food costs for students in over five years," states Superintendent of Schools Dr. DiAnne M. Pellerin. "We understand the financial hardships taking place in our community and only implemented the minimum, mandated increase."
How will this impact L’Anse Creuse students? At the elementary level, lunch prices will go from $2.25 to $2.30. At the middle school level, lunches will go from $2.50 to $2.60. At the high school level, the lunch prices will go from $2.60 to $2.70 and L’Anse Creuse will introduce specialty menus at the high school level with a cost of $3.00 per lunch. Breakfast will cost 5 cents more, or $1.30. For students eligible for free or reduced lunch, there is no change.
“The new specialty menu will provide greater selections for students," said Tanya Nofs, assistant supervisor for Food & Nutrition Services. “We constantly review meal plans and input from students and believe that our range of healthy lunches continues to be a great value in Macomb County."
At their June 20, 2011, regular meeting, the board adopted the new requirements effective with the 2011-2012 school year.

Dear Students and Parents,

This school year is sure to be filled with fun and excitement at L’Anse Creuse Public Schools as Sodexo continues to provide the foodservice program in the school district’s 16 schools.

The school district participates in the USDA National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs, which means that all meals meet or exceed the guidelines and regulations for the School Meals Initiative for Healthy Children.

We’ve planned lots of exciting events to encourage the students to learn more about nutrition and healthy eating habits that will benefit them for a lifetime.
We look forward to serving the students, parents and staff throughout the school year.
