"Regions of the United States"

Knowledge

  • Acquire a basic social studies vocabulary.
  • Describe the cause and effect relationship between major historical events and the development of regions.
  • Recognize the physical and cultural similarities and differences of regions including Native American studies.
  • Define the relationship between natural resources, technology and the economy of the regions.
  • Identify changes that have occurred in the environment as a result of natural and human activity.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the purpose of rules and laws.
     

Skills

  • Demonstrate globe and map skills with relation to location, scale, symbolization and distance.
  • Construct meaning by reading and gathering, interpreting, analyzing and summarizing information.
  • Participate in group discussion and activities by listening attentively, presenting ideas clearly and respecting the ideas of others.
  • Describe differences that exist in the environment, economy and life styles of the regions of the United States.
     

Democratic Values

  • Develop respect for themselves as well as the rights and well-being of others.
  • Develop respect for cultural similarities and differences among people.
  • Develop respect for fair classroom, school and community rules, as well as local and state laws.
  • Understand the rights and responsibilities of United States citizens.
     

Civic Participation

  • Participate in group decision making.
  • Recognize that there may be more than one interpretation of an event.
  • Participate in peaceful resolution of disputes between students.
  • Become familiar with current issues and make decisions on how they, as individuals, can become involved.
