"Early Eras of the United States"

Knowledge

  • Have acquired a vocabulary, which represents comprehension of major concepts of United States history, geography, economics and civics.
  • Apply basic knowledge of the five themes of geography (location, place, human-environment relationships, movement and region) and their influence on United States history.
  • Demonstrate general knowledge of major personalities, events and their chronology that have contributed to the history of the United States (beginning with the Bering Strait and including up to 1763).
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the structure of the federal government.
  • Recognize the rights and responsibilities as described in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. 

Skills

  • Identify, use and construct different types of tables, charts, diagrams and graphs as they pertain to American history.
  • Identify and use a variety of maps.
  • Place events of United States history in chronological order.
  • Demonstrate the skill of drawing inferences.
  • Demonstrate the understanding of cause and effect.
  • Demonstrate comparing and contrasting.
  • Distinguish between fact and opinion.
  • Be able to support claims with evidence. 

Democratic Values

  • Recognize the individual’s right to express various points of view.
  • Understand the rights, freedoms and responsibilities of citizens and the role of law in democracy in relation to the Constitution.
  • Recognize cultural similarities and respect cultural differences. 

Civic Participation

  • Be able to work individually and as a group member to formulate and carry out responsible plans.
  • Be able to discuss issues and current events orally and/or in written form.
  • Demonstrate ways to exert positive influence by using proper communication techniques and channels.
