Help Within the Community

In these tough economic times, many families are facing or have experienced the loss of jobs, health care, and other necessary supports. The following is a list of agencies to contact if you or someone you know is feeling the effects of this economic crisis:

Student Insurance Assistance:
Information on  low cost health care coverage for uninsured families, information on free health care coverage for pregnant women, babies and children under age 19.

Macomb County Habitat for Humanity:
Located at 130 N. Groesbeck Hwy, Mt. Clemens 48043.  To qualify for a Macomb Habitat house you must meet 4 basic qualifications: 

  1. Ability to Pay: a) make a minimum of $20,000 per year, maximum depends on family size. b) debt-to-income ratio at 40% or less. c) credit criteria (see application or Kristine for details)
  2. Need: currently living in substandard housing
  3. Willingness to Partner: 250 sweat equitiy hours per adult in household.
  4. Macomb County Resident: for at least 6 months.

Also: The Federal Government instituted a program to help student families, with-in certain income guidelines, to apply for subsidized meals (Free or Reduced Meals). Applications and an instruction sheet may be picked up at any District Building. Help may also be obtained by calling (586) 783-6550 ext. 1115. And...

L'Anse Creuse Public Schools has a community food bank for students currently enrolled in any L'Anse Creuse Public Schools educational program (preschool, K-12, and Adult/Alternative Education).   Those in need should contact Timothy Couto at coutoti@lc-ps.org or 586.783.6300 ext. 1245.   Referrals can also be made by any district staff member.   Parent acceptance to the program is required.
