Help Within the Community

In these tough economic times, many families are facing or have experienced the loss of jobs, health care, and other necessary supports. The following is a list of agencies to contact if you or someone you know is feeling the effects of this economic crisis:

  • Macomb County Habitat for Humanity is looking for Families for our Macomb Habitat homes.  Beginning April 15th thru May 15th anyone interested in applying for a Macomb Habitat home can do so.  Come to the Macomb County Habitat for Humanity office located at 37829 Groesbeck Hwy., Clinton Twp MI 48036,  Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to pick up an application (we will not mail them out).  Applicantions DO NOT have to be completed in the office, they can be brought back.  Applicants need to meet four criteria:
    • Ability to Pay: a) make a minimum of $20,000 per year, maximum depends on family size. b) debt-to-income ratio at 40% or less. c) credit criteria (see application or Kristine for details)
    • Need: currently living in substandard housing
    • Willingness to Partner: 250 sweat equitiy hours per adult in household.
    • Macomb County Resident: for at least 6 months.

Kmart and Super Kmart

in the state of Michigan will offer a 20% discount off regularly priced Kmart brand grocery and drugstore merchandise to eligible customers who register for the Program on kmart.com. Our own brand grocery and drugstore merchandise includes: American Fare, Aviya, Biostyle, Champion Breed, Little Ones, Hercules, Image Essentials, Quality Guaranteed, Smart Cents, Smart Sense, Torq, and Vitasmart products, and Our Family products available exclusively at Super Kmart stores. This program excludes sale and clearance merchandise. Cards will be issued from June 21, 2009 through January 2010. Kmart reserves the right to modify or cancel this program at any time. Limit one card per person. Savings cards are non-transferable. In the event of a return, savings may be deducted from the refund.

Eligibility:

Kmart customers who are Michigan residents and present state-issued identification (driver’s license or identification card) and a state-issued unemployment benefits enrollment confirmation, including: printed verification from the Unemployment Insurance Agency (“UIA”) claim portal*, UIA debit card, or a UIA check stub (“Unemployment Verification”) are eligible to participate in the Program (“Eligible Participants”). At check-out, cardholders will be required to show their valid savings card, their state-issued identification card for signature verification, and their

Unemployment Verification.

Also: The Federal Government instituted a program to help student families, with-in certain income guidelines, to apply for subsidized meals (Free or Reduced Meals). Applications and an instruction sheet may be picked up at any District Building. Help may also be obtained by calling (586) 783-6550 ext. 1115. And...

L'Anse Creuse Public Schools has a community food bank for students currently enrolled in any L'Anse Creuse Public Schools educational program (preschool, K-12, and Adult/Alternative Education).   Those in need should contact Timothy Couto at coutoti@lc-ps.org or 586.783.6300 ext. 1245.   Referrals can also be made by any district staff member.   Parent acceptance to the program is required.
