Message from the Superintendent
August 2009
Dear L’Anse Creuse Families and Friends:
Welcome to the start of the 2009-2010 school year! It’s been a busy summer, and I am pleased to inform you that we are ready for what promises to be another great year in L’Anse Creuse Public Schools. Two major construction projects have been completed on schedule and on budget: the new Green Elementary School and the DiAnne M. Pellerin Center. Although Green Elementary was built from the same blueprint as South River Elementary, it definitely has its own character, identity and charm. The overarching design theme for the school was based on the craftsman era and the combination of the color scheme, carpet design, tile, brick, interior and exterior décor creates a warm and welcoming environment for the school’s 550 students and staff, as well as the extended community. The DiAnne M. Pellerin Center is the new home for Riverside Academy, the district’s alternative high school. The intent of the design of this facility was to create a learning environment that meets the needs of students who benefit from the individualized instruction, self-paced learning and emphasis on social/emotional development characteristic of the Riverside program. While classrooms meet the requirements of the basic learning environment, the overall impression created by the facility’s unique design supports the “non-traditional character of the Riverside program. While not a new building, one of the district’s facilities has a new name and is getting a little “facelift. The former home to Riverside Academy, the L’Anse Creuse-Mount Clemens Adult Education Building located on North River Road, has been renamed the L’Anse Creuse-Mount Clemens Center for Lifelong Learning, and appropriately so! The Offices of the Community Education Program, Michigan Works! Re-training programs, daytime Adult Education classes, and a state approved GED testing site are located at this site. We are very excited about the opportunity this facility affords us in providing education and training for our community beyond high school. So, have we been busy? You betcha! How exciting it is to present these latest developments to the L’Anse Creuse community. There has always been a great sense of pride and a commitment to the future in L’Anse Creuse Public Schools. The new Green Elementary, the DiAnne M. Pellerin Center, and the L’Anse Creuse-Mount Clemens Center for Lifelong Learning are testimony to our promise to keep the pride and secure the future of your school district.
Sincerely, DiAnne M. Pellerin
